From Christmas Tree to Treasured Heirloom: How Families Are Saving a Piece of the Season

From Christmas Tree to Treasured Heirloom

Every Christmas tree has a story.

Some stand tall and proud in the corner of the living room, wearing a thousand tiny lights like jewelry. Some lean a little to the left and are lovingly fixed with fishing line and determination. Some hold mismatched ornaments from kindergarten, others glitter with glass blown in far-off places. But each one becomes, for a few short weeks, the quiet witness of your holiday season.

It watches the late-night wrapping marathons.

The early-morning coffee before the kids wake up.

The laughter, the chaos, the familiar rituals.

The moments you want to tuck away and keep forever.

Then January arrives.

And the tree, once the center of your home, is taken to the curb, leaving behind a trail of needles and a pang of nostalgia you can’t quite name.

But what if the story didn’t have to end there?

What if you could save a piece of your Christmas… literally?

The Magic of Turning Memories into Heirlooms

A few years ago, we began offering something a little different, a little nostalgic and very sentimental. We turn a section of your Christmas tree trunk into a hand-turned wooden keepsake.

Not a replica.

Not a generic decoration.

Your actual tree, reimagined.

Gary (our in-house woodturner and lathe whisperer) begins with your trunk. Rough bark, sap pockets, knots, curves… all the quirks that made your Christmas tree yours.

Slowly, the lathe reveals the wood’s hidden personality, the swirls, the rings, the grain that has been living quietly beneath the bark all season long.

By the time he burns the year into the bottom, the transformation is complete.

What was once destined for the curb becomes a piece of your story, something to hold in your hands long after the lights come down.

A Tradition That Grows Every Year

One of my favorite parts of this project is watching families turn this into a tradition.

Some customers have been with us since 2021, the year we started making them. They send their trunks every January, and now have a little wooden forest growing across their mantel — a timeline of their Christmas seasons.

A baby’s first Christmas.

A first holiday in a new home.

The year everything changed.

The year everything was beautifully, wonderfully the same.

Each tree holds a memory.

And together, they hold a legacy.

How it Works

1. Order your Keepsake Tree on our website

2. Save a 12” section from your Christmas tree trunk, 3–5” diameter is perfect.

3. Send it to the address you receive in your order confirmation email. .

4. We hand-turn your trunk into a wooden tree and burn the year into the base.

5. We send it back to you wrapped in watercolor pine-tree tissue with a Keepsake Care Card.

Turnaround time: about 4-6 weeks. He needs to insure the wood is dry enough to turn.

This doesn't have to be a Christmas tree, it can be any special tree. Contact us to create your own special creation made from any tree with special meaning.

A Beautiful Way to Preserve Your Season

Your Christmas tree saw your life, your traditions, your memories, your people.

Saving a piece of it is a way of saying:

This mattered. This season mattered. This memory matters.

And that’s exactly why we love creating these heirlooms.
